FOOD MOOD

hello there, you have stumbled upon justina's food page.
i've started this page to keep track of all the nice food places in singapore i've been to.

this page is sorted by restaurant. photos are included when available.
i try to include details about the ambience, prices, style and other relevant things which vary as well.

enjoy and feel free to comment at the bottom. if you like this page, i'd appreciate a word of thanks very much :D HAHAHA.

NECTARIE @ clarke quay

food available: cakes, apple crumble, chocolate mousse, quiche, large cookies, ice cream.

this is a little cafe tucked away near the center fountain of clarke quay, it's one or two shops away from clinic(the pub), and directly opposite this japanese convenience store. here i've tried their cheesecake, chocolate mousse and apple crumble, all of which were pretty tantalizing :)

price range: about $6-8
a strange thing to note about this little cafe is that despite their menu claiming to be exclusive of gst and svc charge, neither charge is reflected in the bill. i am not complaining though :D

cheesecake! comes with a chocolate piece, a raspberry and a strawberry :)

chocolate mousse! it's a mix of dark and milk chocolate. very very sinful. and the white wave you see on the right is actually liquified white chocolate.

________ (jap restaurant) @ The Cathay (near plaza singapura)

food available: assorted sushi&sashimi, seafood, udon, soba, don (rice), deserts, wine, drinks, side dishes

if you like big portions and interesting dining concepts, this is one place you've gotta visit! it's at the basement of the cathay, should be quite easy to find as it's the only japanese restaurant there. and when you do visit it, you can do me a favour by telling me it's name (i forgot =x)

the ambience is that of a japanese tuckshop, a little dimly lit in some areas but you should still be able to see your food unless you're some blind mouse. sushi can be obtained from the sushi belt, whereas other food is ordered via taking sticks correspond to the food and depositing them into the basket placed on your table.

prices: 99cents for all sushi plates (about 2 pcs per plate) i'm not sure if this is a promotion or permanent. udon/don costs about $7-$10+, side orders range from $2-$6. all prices listed are before gst and svc charge.

SOUP SPOON @ paragon / raffles city (there are a few outlets)

as the name implies, this semi-cafe styled restaurant sells mainly soup and other items like sandwiches, wraps and chips. here i've tried quite a range of soups..and all were quite nice, on top of being extremely filling.

mushroom lovers can opt for the velvety mushroom straganoff (i hope i got the spelling right). it's a very thick and chunky mushroom soup, takes AGES to finish unless you are a mega slurper, and it is more filling than all the other soups there somehow.

the boston clam chowder is pretty good too, the clams they use are chewy and not fishy unlike some other places. the soup is also stuffed with many small potato chunks, so it settles very well as a meal.

you can add on for a set here but i wont advise it, unless you have a really large stomach, and also because their sandwiches and wraps are not that fantastic.

soups come in two sizes, regular and grande, of which grande is really REALLY BIG. good for sharing.

price range: about $6 for a regular. no gst and svc charge here yay!

china noodle stall @ whampoa food centre

i can't remember the exact name of this hawker stall, but you can easily recognise it from the distinctive bright yellow bowls this stall uses.

food available: noodles with fish/clams/prawns/intestines

this is probably the BEST hawker stall i've ever eaten from. my family goes there to eat almost every other sunday or so, despite the average waiting time of 15-20minutes.

the soup base used is sweet yet salty, with a hint of soyabean. normally the vegetable in it is ma ni cai, which is very nice, but if you are unlucky your bowl might have cabbage instead.

to sum it up in one word: SHIOK! :)

prices: $3 for a regular bowl, $4/5 for bigger bowls.

DIN TAI FUNG @ paragon / wisma atria (outlets)

food available: dim sum, noodles, porridge, fried rice etc

the highlight of this restaurant is easily it's XIAO LONG BAO which is soooooo sooooo YUMMMYYY! (: succulent and juicy, and the best part like my mom says, is that the meat smell isn't too strong. be careful when you pick it up with your chopsticks; you definitely dont want to burst it and let all the meat juice escape.

they also have variations of vegetarian xiao long bao, like red bean and yam. pretty interesting but nonetheless just an accessory, the original xiao long bao reigns.

try the fried rice there as well if you can. it is very fragrant and has a generous helping of fresh prawns.

prices: $8.50 for 10 xiao long baos, $9 for fried rice, both excluding gst and svc charge. other prices can be found on their menu.

LEE WEE BROS @ takashimaya basement & other random places

this stall sells otah. lots of it in many different flavours. you can get the normal fish flavoured ones, or if you have more exquisite tastebuds go for the crab, prawn, squid and what not flavours. mackerel otah is available as well, but as usual it is priced rather steeply.

my personal favourites are the prawn and crab ones. the prawn otah as shown below has real prawns embedded in it. while the crab otah has real crab meat (not crab stick). both are a little spicy.

prices: 50cents to $1+ depending on the flavour

RICCIOTTI @ The RiverWalk (next to clarke quay mrt)

food available: italian food, wine, desserts

this is an italian bar located by the river in clarke quay, the decor is classy and calm, and the prices can make you go wow unless you drop by after 9pm to enjoy the half price desserts :)

try their soffiato, it's the chocolate fondue with white icing as seen below, really really good and rich! packed in a fluffy muffin, warm hot chocolate oozes out from the center; a perfect compliment to the scoop of vanilla ice cream.

other desserts in the photo below are lemon meringue (the yellow one), tiramisu (the layered one) and some pistacho chocolate with glazed sugar (the green one)

price range: about $4 for a half priced dessert. you'll have to check the menu for the rest.

coconut & fruit juice stall @ the new bugis street

food available: young thai coconut, exotic fruit juices like dragonfruit juice

i've only tried the young thai coconut here, which is slightly smaller than the size of two fists joint together. the coconut juice is very fragrant and the meat is soft and fresh. yumm! perfect for a refresher before you enter the oh-so-bustling bugis street.

price: $1.30 for a young thai coconut

chocolate fondue stall @ golden mile food complex (near lavender mrt)

if you come here just go the the royal set. the one displayed below costs $14.80. it says its for 2 people, but in my opinion it is enough for 3 hungry pple and 4-5 not so hungry pple to share.

the chocolate fondue is thick, rich and smooth, doesnt have clumps of powder or that fake chocolate taste..so its really lovely..you might even wanna sip a spoonful of it to savour it on it's own.

the waffles are really awesome, claimed to be genuine belgian waffles or something, and when you dip them in chocolate they are simple HEAVENLY (:

for the gelato ice cream, give the green tea ice cream a go. it's not the typical herbal green tea hokkaido ice cream that you can get at other shops, but rather it has a very refreshing springy green tea flavour. very very fragrant =)
