when less is more

the boy stuck his hand into the jar of multicoloured jellybeans.
the opening of the jar was barely big enough for his fist to pass through, sliding by the smooth cold glass occasionally.

in his greed he grabbed a fistful of jellybeans, thinking of how they would last him through the movie on television.

his fist jammed at the opening; the jellybeans in his hand had enlarged the circumference of his fist such that it could no longer pass through the jar's opening.

he tugged harder at it, with an illogical faint hope that somehow he would manage to yank his hand out.

but he could not.
then reluctantly, he released a couple of jellybeans.

he was still unable to get his hand out.

a few more...a lot more...until all he was left with was probably five jellybeans.

finally, out.

disappointed he was, but as he opened his fist he noticed for the first time, there was an orange, coke, cottoncandy, grape and coffee flavoured bean in his hand.

he never knew each jelly bean so well previously when they were just shoved into his mouth, giving that sugar rush each time he chewed on them.

perhaps it is true that when we have less, we have more,
and that we learn to cherish the remaining less, a lot more :)
