thief of the intangible
on a sunday morning a woman sits on her black leather couch, watching her favourite korean drama on telly. she munches on a sour cream and onion lays potato chip occasionally, just for the flavour.
she had forgotten to close the kitchen window. a man clad in a white tee and jeans climbs in. he accidentally slips on the sink and upsets the metal dish holder placed adjacently.
cling clong clang.
the woman gets rudely awoken from the korean realm and here she is in reality, with a stranger in her house. she drops the potato chip in her hands and opens her mouth but is too terrified to even scream.
the man rushes over to the couch, places a finger over HIS own lips and goes "shhhhhh!"
the woman is still in shock. what is he here for? to rob? to murder?
"open your front door quick!" orders the man.
the woman obeys in fear. it might just be either the door or her life. obviously she would choose the latter.
the man dashes out of the door. within a few seconds, he is gone, far far away.
he did not steal her money, nor her valuables or anything physical for that matter.
he did not murder. he did not even lay a finger on her.
but above all things tangible, he has stolen many things.
her peace, her comfort and her security amidst others.
things that no amount of money can buy back.
