ever wonder what makes you bond with a place? such that the animosity between you and it is very much lowered?

yesterday was my first late shift at dotb. alright actually all my work days for january are going to be like that. 2-10pm or 6-10pm. haha. grace and i cleaned up the place, switched off all the lights and finally were ready to go at 10.20pm after a certain silly little glitch which made us stay back longer for certain reasons. when she was locking the gate i took a glance of the surroundings, all the shops had unfolded their doors, locked up, lights off (ok some still had lights on actually, what a waste of electricity). the whole place was just quiet and desolate minus the few banglas on the overhead bridge. and that's vivocity at night for you. a place bustling with activity in the day; so tranquil and empty at night.

it then dawned upon me, that perhaps only when we experience this loneliness dwelling within a certain place, do we truly bond with it by realizing its other side. confusing and profound as it may sound, i guarantee you its not. think about those times you had to stay back in school until 10,11pm+, strange how a place filled with life and noise had turned so dark and serene wasn't it. or perhaps the park at 9pm when no one's left but you, your friends and the trees. the next time when you visit these places after such encounters, a sense of familiarity swarms..okay or at least it does to me =)

lunch with cara later at orchard, we're either going to chahaya or rabbit restaurant to relive that feeling of nostalgia haha. i remember in rgs day we could go to orchard like 3-4 times a week because it was so near and ezlink fare was a flat 45cents. a few weeks back while shopping in far east plaza, xueting suddenly brought up the 'sunny chicken rice stall' which tania, chloe, kiat, cara, her and i used to eat at frequently after bball trainings. and to our horrors, it was gone when we decided to search for it. oh well. i guess sometimes change is the only constant you can find in orchard huh ;)

on a side note, working at dotb has been quite interesting thus far, i am learning lots, from how to wash instruments, pack instruments, familiarising myself with the services and what not. and the perculiar things which occur become pretty mainstream after awhile, like how some pple walk past, stop outside the clinic and stare for awhile before moving on, to how a woman called up yesterday, sounding very exasperated because "her tooth just broke into half" and she very intelligently prescribed herself an RCT (root canal treatment) O.O

to my new colleague grace, its amazing how God has brought us to know each other. from how we are in the same predicament awaiting As results without having applied to any unis yet, to our ccas council and touch rugby, and our subject combis which only differ by physics and bio. it's nice getting to know you better =) and can we speak more english please as you can tell my chinese is very lan diao! hahaha

looking forward to lunch with cara and LA op observation later, blacks touch trng and trinity's new year sermon series on sat ((: the past few days have been a whole lot of self discovery and learning (as you can tell i dont normally sound so reflective in entries) and i really want to thank God for all He has provided; He's kept to His promises and given so much more than that, and i can finally begin to see how all things fall into their right places in His timing. Amen to that(:
