paper deeds
the weather's been pretty cold and rainy recently, and im beginning to suspect that my mood varies almost directly with the weather. when its cold and gloomy, i feel a little less cheery. haha. just a little.
anyway, ms veera showed xinhui and i some J3 portfolios and they were pretty interesting and comprehensive, and as expected, filled with lots of certificates and achievements and what not.
pretty impressive, i must say. not to mention they gave me a better idea of how to go about doing my own portfolio. gotta start digging out all the relevant documents soon.
at the same time, i felt a little saddened, about how the manifested use of portfolios in their widespread purposes of award application, university applications, actually fuels a desire for people to achieve more. not that achieving more has anything wrong in itself, but the purpose in doing so turns wrong when one does it for the sake of the prestige of the portfolio. what meaning has that left in it?
everyone knows to have a "bright" future, you need your 4As, A1, good testimonial..blahblah, but to what extent do these paper grades reflect one's true self? are these paper deeds subconsciously turning us into prestige-hungry people?
i think i've found my stand in this. in everything that i do, every position of any sort that i take on, i want to do it for God's glory. for it by His grace and power that i can do all things, not by my own. and if anything good comes out of it, i will know the glory is not mine, but God's.
for all i want to do, is to love and walk humbly with Him.
the type of satisfaction that paper deeds can never buy.
